extrovert, charismatic, impulsive, a bit of a bastard and a mess, loyal, honest and caringdesignation at Briggs: Casther is the second Captain at Briggs. While Buccaneer is there for defensive maneuvers, Casther is in charge of missions that are on the offensive side. He's a great fighter, especially in close combat and his intuition and street smarts have brought him far. He doesn't really care about rank tho, just protecting those close to him and he does enjoy a good fight.Casther has the image of a goof and a troublemaker. Tho a lot of it is part of the facade he build to make other people underestimate him. His rank doesn't come from nowhere and he's a great leader and highly respected by everyone in the fort (tho some wished his tactics were a bit more to the book)

Casther is a grey wolf chimera, but his chimera experience differs from those we see in fma.At age of 18 Casther got into trouble with dangerous individuals (this sound so stupid but idk how else to describe it rn) and ended up becoming a test subject for their studies. Note: They're not military, but there are links to the homunculi.
Back then such transmutation were new and there weren't any breakthroughs yet, causing most test-subjects to die. They transmutated him with a grey wolf and against all odds he managed to survive the procedure, but not without change ofc.apperance: In fma some chimeras we see can shift from a purely human apperance to a more animalistic one. Casther can't transform and changes are not as noticable, but they are permanent. His "wolf features" are mostly visible in his grey hair, yellow eyes and fangs. There are more subtle changes tho, like increased body temperature, high pain tolerance and small changes in behavior.abilities: Casther does not have inhuman strength, he did gain inhuman abilities tho. All of his senses are vastly heightened (seeing, hearing, feeling, ...). Just to give some examples: he can listen to a conversation from across the room and can feel the pulse of a person standing next to him (which can help him to recognize lies). Tho his biggest power is his sixth sense which can best be described as "instinct". It allows him to anticipate his opponents moves. It doesn't mean he can see things slower/see them before they happen (like Bradley/Wrath). It's more like an itch in the back of his head, a feeling in his gut. This skill took him years to master and he's the king of dodging attacks (tho he’s far from invincible)Casther's abilities are constantly active, which can lead to overstimulation and ends in a paralysis until he calms down. Even gun shots can overwhelm him when they're close, which is highly impractical. After years and years of practice he learns to tone down his abilities if needed.All of his abilities are trained skills and come at a high price. He struggled with his changed body for years, always fearing he would wake up more like a beast than a man sometimes.

Background

Casther grew up with his parents and a small brother. His mother was a kind and caring person, teaching him to protect others. However his father was completely different: He was abusive and blamed Casther for everything bad happening in their lives. When he was still a kid his mother got sick, which weakened her immensely. Luckily he had a good relationship with his younger brother Milo.At the age of 13 Casther witnessed a fight between his parents which ends in his weakened mother dying by the hands of the father. Without hesitation Casther grabbed Milo and ran away. They then lived on their own, Casther having to grow up fast in order to take care of his brother. He resulted to stealing and they were doing just fine.That is until Casther got his fingers burned at the age of 18. He got into trouble with the wrong people, which leads to them to kidnapping him and his brother for their alchemical experiments. When Casther survived the transmutation against all odds, they too tried their luck with his brother. But other than Casther, Milo didn't survive the procedure, leaving Casther alone.Four years later, Olivier Armstrong approaches him to recruit him to the fort. The whole recruitment is a whole other story tho, which I like to unpack with comics (view my Twitter moments for the first few parts)

Trivia

• He first meets Olivier and Val at the age of 14. Casther stole Val's watch and Olivier chased after him (Casther got his ass handed to him right after)
• Casther is really sensitive about his age, simply because he's afraid to look older because of his grey hair. Think of it as reacting the same way as Ed getting called short (maybe not quite as angry, but still comparable)

Appearances

Casther around age of 21-23When I'm talking about "young Casther" this is who I'm talking about. This is the time after he got turned into a chimera and lost his brother. At this point he managed to control his powers (tho he still lacks experience). During this phase he's a cocky bastard and thinks himself a thug. However he's just a good boy trying to find his place and acting all tough after losing everything.
